Pietro Marcello has always worked both in "fiction cinema" and "documentary," but with his filmography these labels are riskily inaccurate: because this alternation can be found even in the same film.
Marcello in his works has, in fact, always tried to experiment new languages: staging reality, using archival materials in narrative or poetic form, playing with epochs. Even in his costume films, the tale is mixed with moments that we perceive as cinema of reality.
We chose three exemplary films from these twenty years of activity to try to summarize his path in a small retrospective, and invited him to talk to us about his cinema.
